Despite what certain sites are saying, the PPV numbers are not yet in. We can be certain that it was a PPV hit and most likely would rank in the top 5.
The fight was popular. It got people interested in the sport. People that had never watched boxing tuned in. I hope they liked what they saw.
For hard core fans, the fight was pointless and the outcome certain. Anyone that picked McGregor to win simply does not understand boxing. He talked a good fight, but the more he talks, the more sales are made, and boxers are paid based on buys.
People billed it as the best of MMA vs. the best of boxing. No and no again. McGregor may be the best MMA fighter in the world. That is irrelevant in a boxing ring. Some will say “MMA fighters box”. They do box, they just aren’t very good at it. Mayweather may have been the best boxer once. Those days are now gone. Mayweather was a retired veteran.
So the best Cage fighter in a boxing ring vs. an aging legend in his own sport. I watched the fight, I enjoyed the fight, but I knew that it had no impact or relevance on the boxing landscape.
