Floyd Mayweather the Greatest?

I’m a true purist. I hate to watch sluggers and I love to watch pure skill. I don’t care much for KOs but I love to see a fighter dominate from start to finish.

I’m a huge Floyd Mayweather fan. He is my favourite boxer of the last 10 years. I don’t like the flashy lifestyle, but in the ring, TMT is on another level.

Floyd believed in himself way before anyone else did. He worked hard and was at the top for many years. It looks like he will fall short of becoming the first man to earn a billion from a fighting career, but he is by far the richest boxer to ever live. I feel that he deserve every penny he has,

Mayweather says that he is the greatest boxer that ever lived, and there are people that agree. What is greatness? Muhammad Ali has always been called the greatest, but he isn’t the best. The greatest therefore, must surely be the man that has contributed the most to boxing. Muhammad Ali inspired almost every Champion of the past 50 years to lace up the gloves. Floyd cant be the greatest.

I’m a massive Floyd fan, but I cant ignore what I have seen. Mayweather, for all his brilliance, has done a great PR job. His record looks impressive, but its based on myth and has been carefully orchestrated. He is unbeaten, so why have I seen him lose? He has never been knocked down, so why have I seen him get knocked down. He beat the great Oscar De La Hoya, the Great Cotto, The great Pacquiao, but he beat them when they were no longer great. He wouldn’t fight many people in their prime, people he later beat. The sad thing is that I believe he would have beaten them all in his prime. He beat Rocky Marcianos record, but beat it by fighting a man on his professional debut.

Perhaps Mayweathers crowning achievement is beating Canelo in such dominant fashion. Floyd was spectacular that night.

So no, Floyd Mayweather most certainly is not the greatest ever. But I cant remember ever seeing s defensive master as good as the money man.

Chris Jerrod.
