As everyone is aware, The English boxing Union has undergone many changes recently.
Management has changed hands and is now run by a board. This have been very different. Here are some ways that the EBU has changed for the better.
Shows. We have tripled the number of shows per month. This will continue to improve.
Purses. Everyone knows about those few that benefit from a huge purse every time they fight. But the boxers at the bottom of the pile sometimes only get £100. This is unacceptable and doesn’t even cover training fees. Every boxer gets more under the new regime. The EBU gained popularity for its generous pay. Once enough fighters joined, that very slowly changed.
Female boxers have been allowed to box for the EBU since 2011, but it was never encouraged. We have fantastic female boxers and we plan on having complete female divisions for females within two years. Currently, females have no ranking. We want female Champions.
International ambitions. Its very hard to make cross organisation fights. Even harder to make international fights. How has the EBU got round this? They bought other organisations. These will all eventually merge to form a huge organisation. Organisations bought include 11 British, 5 French, 7 Spanish, 5 German, 1 Russian, 1 Australian. The EBU plans on have fighters in each country of Europe and the commonwealth, With belts to match. An EBU spokesman said:
“As soon as possible, certainly within 3 years, we will have a World title. When we have organisations in 80% of Europe, we will have a European title. That will happen within weeks. When we have 80% of the Commonwealth, a title will follow. 80% of the world and a title will follow”.
