In all organisations, it seems to be harder than it once was to make fights happen. Missed fights are major blows to the sport. in a recent interview, Harry Matthews, EBU representative gave his take on the situation.
“In my experience, its not the boxers that are to blame. People accuse boxers of being scared of other boxers when a fight doesn’t get made. Boxers aren’t scared of other boxers. They didn’t get to where they are by fearing competition. Boxers actually want to fight eachother and are just as frustrated by missed fights as you and me. The biggest problem is the promoters. They have a boxer that brings in large amounts of money. If they lose they bring less. The promoter is willing to put his fighter into a dangerous fight if the money is worth the risk. But the promoter he is negotiating with feels the same. Meanwhile, in the background is two boxers itching to fight each other, but their promoters are demanding to much money.
